EDUCATION:
Our goal for Lighthouse children is to foster their engagement in the classroom by directing their wealth of energy toward music, crafts, and group play. It’s our top priority to not only help our students identify the material presented before them, but to also absorb the knowledge they gain.
Classrooms:
Children aged one to three years old spend their days in a mixed-age classroom. One specific benefit of this diversity is that it helps to eliminate unhealthy competition between students. Students of similar ages and abilities naturally compare themselves to one another. In a mixed-age classroom, attention is instead drawn to the range of talents and abilities within the class and allows children to relax and learn at their own pace. Because each child is working at their own pace, they can focus on their own learning goals and progress. We are intentional about promoting friendships of all ages to prepare children for elementary school and to enhance relationships they build throughout their early years.
We understand each child learns at their own pace. With that, we are meticulous when creating individualized learning plans for each child. Status reports are sent home each Friday – please let your child’s teacher know if you have concerns about areas of opportunity for their learning.
Preschoolers
According to the United State Census Bureau, 5.4% of Wyoming’s population in 2022 were children under the age of five. With a population of 571,381, that means roughly 30,854 children under 5 needed preschool services in 2022 – before our opening, there were 18 preschool centers in Cheyenne, of which most (if not all) have waiting lists.
Wait no longer - we offer a world-class preschool program to the littles of the Capitol city!
Preschoolers have the opportunity to truly prepare for kindergarten success by following a schedule of 8:30am to noon. Their half-days are packed full of district approved, creative, engaging, and innovative learning. Additionally, our preschool program doesn’t end until the schoolyear does, closing the time gap between preschool and kindergarten. School-aged children spend time with our preschoolers before and after school, creating everlasting friendships for children of all ages as they enter their first days of elementary.
By implementing a clear anti-bullying policy, we can ensure that children are not impacted by the intentional negative behaviors of others, especially through the means of social and emotional bullying; however, unintentionally, children naturally can impact others negatively because they haven’t been taught how to properly interact with others. To combat the infancy of their emotional intelligence, our teaching styles encourage our children’s social development by teaching them how to recognize body language and other signals to identify the emotions of their peers. In doing so, they will be equipped with a true understanding of empathy towards others and will eventually develop the skills they need to be great team-players and future leaders in society.
